Miriam Blennerhassett 

 

“I grew up singing classical and sacred music throughout my early years in the seaside village of Howth just outside Dublin. After a period of third level study at the College of Music, Dublin I joined the RTÉ Chamber Choir in 1984. This was where I met a young Michael McGlynn and he invited me to join his new group An Uaithne, later to become ANÚNA. I’ve has been a member the ensemble for over 30 years and I have sung on nearly every continent - all over Europe, Asia, Africa and North and South America. Anúna has been part of my personal and professional journey for over half my life and has since filtered down to the second generation, with my daughter Aimée joining the group in 2009.”

Miriam has been involved in the inception of other notable musical projects including the Drawing Room Opera Company and the National Chamber Choir. In 2002, she made made her Carnegie Hall, New York debut with Jim Molloy’s production of The Irish Ring and performed in several theatrical productions, staring as Lady Thiang in The King and I and the Mother Abbess in The Sound of Music. She has collaborated with many celebrated artists, including Gavin Friday and John Rocha, and in October 2015 was invited to perform at in London by Hans Zimmer for the premier performance of ‘Hans Zimmer Revealed’.

Miriam currently resides in County Westmeath with her husband and two dogs (her true children).
